Palliative Care Hub - About
The Palliative Hub has been developed by AIIHPC with member organisations, key stakeholders and AIIHPC’s Voices4Care volunteer to act as a gateway to information and resources about palliative care on the island of Ireland. The Palliative Hub fills a recognised gap in the palliative care sector for a dedicated websites to help people from a variety of backgrounds access and find the information and resources they need.
The Hub seeks to deliver this information and resources to a number of audiences through six different components:
This site is The Palliative Hub landing page and provides a general overview of what palliative care is for the general public and acts as a central point to access the five major components of the hub.
There is already a large amount of information for the general public on the internet but sometimes finding and accessing this information can be difficult. The concept behind both The Palliative Hub – Children and Young People and The Palliative Hub – Adult is to link through to this information rather than replicating it. The content on the websites has been provided by professionals who have worked in palliative and hospice care for a number of years.
The Palliative Hub – Carers provides core information that is targeted at family members or friends who are providing support to a person who needs palliative care. These people are often referred to as ‘carers’. The website aims to help carers to understand how palliative care may assist their relative and also provides advice on how carers can best support him/her whilst also looking after themselves.
The Palliative Hub – Professional provides online resources for health and social care professionals and educators including access to key policy documentation from the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland along with information on events and blogs.
The Palliative Hub – Research is a dedicated online space for researchers, health and social care professionals, service providers, policy makers, charities, funders and anyone with an interest in palliative care research across the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. It provides a central point of access to information on the AIIHPC Palliative Care Research Network and its research activity and impact and the Early Career Researcher Forum. The website also details the wide range of supports available for PCRN and ECRF members including funding opportunities and events and it highlights research publications, study pages, podcasts and blogs.
The Palliative Hub – Learning Platform’s overarching goal is to provide an online learning environment for palliative care education. The Learning Platform works to underpin all of the websites by offering a number of palliative care online learning programmes for both the public and professional. It provides an environment for palliative care communities including AIIHPC’s Communities of Practice and Special Interest Groups and it provides AIIHPC member organisations with the opportunity to host their own learning materials.
